Meet Samantha.
Hey there, I’m Samantha Alcalde (pronounced “All-call-day”)
I am an LGBTQ+ friendly therapist with specialized and advanced training in complex trauma and maternal mental health. I work with HSPs who are ready to step into more authentic aliveness, confidence, and capacity as they break free from toxic family & societal patterns and create new possibilities for themselves.
Nearly a decade ago, as I thumbed through Susan Cain’s “Quiet: The Power of Introverts in A World That Can’t Stop Talking” admiring the smooth textured cover and weighted pages, I landed on a paragraph likening people to “orchids or dandelions” - I was intrigued. I continued to read about this new-to-me term called “Highly Sensitive People” and couldn’t help but let out a delighted “HA!” right in the middle of the bookstore aisle. Damn, I felt so…seen; which, frankly, had been a pretty rare occurrence in my life up to that point.
That moment was just one drop in the bucket of “aha moments” on what has been an ardent quest to better understand, respect, and love myself more fully. If you, dear reader, are anything like me, you’ve likely done your fair share of internet deep dives to find some explanation, relief, or validation for feeling chronically shut down, spaced out, keyed-up, and alone – even when you’re not.
I credit my deep seated curiosity and dedication to my soul-quest in introducing me to transformative healing practices such as yoga in its various forms, Vipassana meditation, Buddhism, exploration into psychedelics & plant medicines, and different types of esoteric mysticism (I see you, fellow Human Design Projectors).
One such transformative experience, or rather a continued experience, has been my introduction to and subsequent study of NARM- the therapeutic model I’m trained in. Something that’s really stood out to me is how respectful, gentle, and heartful this mind-body approach to healing complex trauma is. It’s definitely made clear; it’s one thing to know something, and a completely different experience to embody it.
I imagine you have your own version of this story. Or maybe your story is just beginning. Either way, I’m so happy you’re here.
